Explore Modular is delighted to have successfully completed the installation of a new modular school building at Hoo St Werburgh Primary School, delivered for The Rivermead Inclusive Trust and Medway Council.
The successful installation marks another important milestone for the project and demonstrates how modern modular construction can provide schools and local authorities with high-quality new teaching accommodation while significantly reducing the amount of construction activity taking place within a live school environment.
From Design to Installation
Working closely with the project team, Explore Modular has been responsible for developing and delivering a purpose-designed building that provides the school with much-needed additional accommodation.
A significant proportion of the building was constructed and fitted out within a controlled factory environment before being transported to Hoo St Werburgh and carefully installed onto the prepared foundations.
This approach allows construction and site preparation to take place simultaneously, helping to shorten the overall programme while improving quality control and reducing disruption to pupils, staff and the wider school community.
The installation itself required detailed planning and coordination, with the modular sections transported to site and carefully lifted into their final positions to create the new school building.
Seeing a project progress from drawings and individual steel-framed modules to a complete building on site is always a major moment – and the successful installation at Hoo St Werburgh was no exception.
Building Around a Live School Environment
Delivering construction projects within operational schools requires more than simply constructing a building.
Safeguarding, logistics, deliveries, segregation, noise, access and the day-to-day operation of the school all have to be considered throughout the project.
Explore Modular specialises in delivering education projects within these environments. Our offsite approach allows considerably more work to be completed away from the school site, reducing the number of trades, deliveries and construction activities required within the school grounds.
For Hoo St Werburgh, the installation was carefully planned to ensure the building could be delivered and positioned safely and efficiently, with the project team working together to minimise disruption to the school.
Why Modular Works for Education
Schools often need additional accommodation within challenging timescales, particularly where increasing pupil numbers, changing educational requirements or existing building constraints create an urgent need for new space.
Modern modular construction provides a highly effective solution.
The building is designed specifically for its intended use rather than simply being a temporary classroom solution. The modular structure allows permanent, Building Regulations-compliant educational accommodation to be manufactured offsite and installed within a considerably shorter site programme than many traditional construction methods.
It also provides greater certainty over programme, quality and cost – three factors that are particularly important when delivering publicly funded education projects.
Another Education Project for Explore Modular
The Hoo St Werburgh project adds to Explore Modular's growing portfolio of education buildings delivered for schools, academy trusts and local authorities across the UK.
From individual classrooms and SEND facilities through to multi-classroom teaching blocks and specialist educational accommodation, our team provides a complete modular solution covering design development, manufacture, groundworks, delivery, installation and completion.
We are proud to be supporting The Rivermead Inclusive Trust and Medway Council on this project and, most importantly, helping create a high-quality new environment for the pupils and staff who will use the building every day.
With the modules now successfully installed, attention turns to the final stages of the project as we work towards handing over the completed building to the school.
Another successful installation. Another new learning environment taking shape.
