I’ve recently been spending time at Chadwell St Mary Boxing Club, where my son has just started training.
Watching the sessions, meeting the coaches, and seeing the atmosphere in the gym has been genuinely inspiring. It’s a place where young people aren’t just learning to box, but are also building confidence, discipline, and respect for each other.
It brought back memories of growing up locally and seeing first-hand how important clubs like this are in the community. They give people a positive focus and a real sense of belonging, something that stays with you.
The club is busy and clearly making a real difference, but unfortunately the lighting in the gym isn’t fully working at the moment.
We’re trying to raise £1,143 to install a new, energy-efficient LED lighting system so the space can continue to be used safely and properly for years to come.
There’s also a great bit of history here. Former WBA bantamweight world champion Nina Hughes started her amateur career at this very club.
She’s still connected to it, a friend of mine and trains alongside my son time to time. She also happens to be sister-in-law of our very own Stu Whiffen, which makes it all the more special.
If you’re able to support, even in a small way, it would be hugely appreciated. And if not, even a share would go a long way.
